A balanced diet consists of different types of foods items in our menu. A balanced diet includes a variety of foods.The major aim is to ensure that all nutrients are supplied.This can be achieved by first classifying foods into groups-each group supplying certain specific nutrients and then selecting items from each food groups to plan a balanced meal or diet.Including items from each food groups ensures that all the nutrients will be supplied.A balanced diets meets the nutrient needs because of  the amounts and proportions of the foods selected.A balance diet can be defined as one which contains different types or foods in such quantities and proportions that the need for calories,mineral,vitamins and others nutrients is adequately met and a small provision is made for extra nutrients to,withstand short duration of leanness.
One has to ensure that each and every meal includes foods from the energy-giving,body-building and protective,and regulatory groups.In this manner the diet would supply all essential nutrients and would become balanced.

A balanced diet is made up of the five food groups.
  • 1 Carbohydrates. This group contains starchy foods such as pasta, rice, oats, potatoes, noodles, yam, green bananas, sweet potato, millet, couscous, breads, breakfasts cereals, barley and rye. ...
